The club will be hosting the Madison Street Festival Annual Car Show on Saturday, October 4th, from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Please sign up on the calendar if you are willing and able to help with registration, parking and general car show duties! This is an easy show compared to our earlier show, as we only collect monies and park cars...all judging is completed by Madison City officials and all trophies are purchased by the Festival committee.
The Semper Fi Community Task Force met to begin planning for Heroes Week. This
year the activities will span 6-12 Nov. The committee has decided to invite 70
wounded veterans and caregivers this year. Sixty wounded veterans from the
current War on Terrorism and ten wounded veterans from Vietnam and Korea will
round out the group. The Veterans Day planning chairman has been made aware of
the potential need to increase the number of cars for the parade. Priority as
always will go to the Wounded Veterans.
In the last couple of year's members of the club have volunteered to escort
Wounded Veterans on the Lake Guntersville yacht cruise currently scheduled for
Friday 7 Nov. I will be contacting those who participated last year first and
then possibly seek additional volunteers.
On the 7th of August at 10am, The Military Order of the Purple Heart will
rededicate their memorial at the Veterans Memorial Park in Huntsville. They
will also present two Purple Hearts at the ceremony. As most remember, our Vets
with Vettes and Corvette Owners bench frames the memorial to be rededicated.
The public is invited to the ceremony.
