Dr. Rollings' 1971 Phase III GT: "The Most Expensive Of All Motion Corvettes"

Dr. Rollings' 1971 Phase III GT - Vette Magazine
Time has been kind to the Baldwin Motion Supercars, and today complete, restored versions sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Time has been kind to the Baldwin Motion Supercars, and today complete, restored versions sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The similarly vaunted Yenkos may boast a COPO pedigree, but those cars never offered the option of buyer personalization. Joel Rosen and Marty Schorr made sure the Baldwin Motion experience was altogether different.

1969 Chevrolet Corvette - Orange Whip

1969 Chevrolet Corvette - Orange Whip
Karen Viray made it her mission to build a beautiful Monaco Orange 1969 Chevrolet Corvette of her own!

To those who didn't know her well, young Karen Viray might have looked like a typical all-American girl growing up in the vast suburban sprawl that makes up Northern New Jersey. But little did the outside world know, Viray was holding a secret, a secret her immediate family acknowledged and, interestingly enough, helped nurture whenever possible.

1957 Chevrolet Corvette - Pilot Car

1957 Chevrolet Corvette - Pilot Car - Vette Magazine
Check out this 1957 Chevrolet Corvette! This former race car belongs to Randy and Ann Scott, and it's an early-build '57 Corvette that flew high on the road-racing circuit.

With its fender flares and simple hoop rollbar, the '57 Corvette former race car of Randy and Ann Scott is definitely a snapshot from another era—and then there's the engine. It's a big-block. In a C1 road racer. Talk about swatting flies with sledgehammer.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette 4-Seater Sting Ray - XP-796, “The Only Four-Seat Factory Sting Ray”

1963 Chevrolet Corvette 4-Seater Sting Ray - XP-796 - Vette Mag
In mid-1961, Cole suggested that the Corvette team look into a four-seat Sting Ray to compete with its Ford rival. Shinoda was assigned to manage the construction of a running prototype of a four-place Sting Ray.

Designing cars can be challenging, rewarding...and frustrating. What should be nonstop fun often is not, due to conflicting opinions and unwanted external kibitzing. That's why design teams are sequestered away, so they can work with minimal interference. Even so, when someone with organizational clout opines, "We should do a...," the whole process can end up back on the drawing board.

“Not Quite” Corvettes - Creative Uses for Spare Parts - Vette Magazine
Each of these revivified Vettes could be duplicated in your own lab, er, garage. Noting this odd habit of collecting components, we came up with a few suggestions for what to do with them.

More is better when it comes to Corvettes. Not only do many Corvette owners have more than one example of Chevy's sports car in their garage, they've accumulated an assortment of parts as well. Noting this odd habit of collecting components, we came up with a few suggestions for what to do with them.

In July 1967, Chevrolet invited journalists to test drive its upcoming ’68 models at what we call a “long lead” in our business. The name comes from the long amount of time print publications required (and still do) between when a story is generated and when it is published. Having the long-lead preview in July meant Chevy could count on coverage of its new models hitting the newsstands in the fall, when the cars would start appearing in showrooms.

1955 Chevrolet Corvette - The Privateer - Vette Magazine
Kevin Mackay says one photograph taken of the car at the 1956 Sebring eventually led to its discovery, restoration, and purchase by current owner Phil Schwartz.

Imagine driving America's Only True Sports Car from Chicago to Florida, piloting that same Corvette in the 12 Hours of Sebring—and then driving it back to Chicago.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Test - By The Numbers

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Test - By The Numbers - Vette
We unleash the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on the dragstrip, road-course, and dyno! It's a C7 spectacular of America's sports car hitting the street, track, and dyno.

What constitutes a thorough new-car review these days? Browsing the typical online “magazine” (quotes intentionally used) might lead one to conclude that it’s all about knee-jerk first impressions, stilted comparisons with half-million- dollar supercars, and arch commentary on what does and does not constitute a modern suspension configuration.

1953 Chevrolet Corvette Blue Flame Six - "Corvette's First Engine"

1953 Chevrolet Corvette Blue Flame Six - Vette Magazine
K. Scott Teeters goes in-depth about Corvette's first engine, the "Blue Flame Six". The 1953 Chevrolet Corvette was hurried into production with the Blue Flame Six because of the positive response.

Last month we told you about GM's latest legend in the making, the all-new LT1. Already, tuners have tweaked the new C7 to run the quarter-mile in the high 9s. That's impressive untapped potential. The public's love affair with Corvette engines began with the 265ci small-block Chevy in 1955. And when the 283 fuelie launched two years later, true Corvette performance had finally arrived.

XP-819 Chevrolet Corvette Prototype - The XP Factor

XP-819 Chevrolet Corvette Prototype - The XP Factor - Vette Magazine
A long-neglected experimental XP-819 Vette takes its turn in the spotlight at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours.

One of the high points of the 2013 Amelia Island Concours came when Corvette Repair's Kevin Mackay unveiled the XP-819 Corvette prototype in "driveable chassis" form. The story of the car's journey from its birthplace in the Chevrolet engineering department into the hands of its current owner, Mid America Motorworks' Mike Yager, spans nearly a half-century and at times reads like a mystery novel.

1962 Chevrolet Corvette - From Remnant To Revived

1962 Chevrolet Corvette - From Remnant To Revived - Vette Magazine
Renick found this C1 in the early '70s, in far-from-perfect condition. "It was in a wreck that tore the right side out of it," he recalls. "I bought it, actually, as a parts car."

Many times, when we ask feature-Corvette owners for their advice to other prospective Vette restorers, their reply is, "Get the best car for your money."

Fifty years after its creation, the wild, Barris-built Asteroid Corvette reenters the atmosphere! This 'Vette is so out-of-this-world that it was a big winner at shows like the Long Beach Autorama and the Mickey Thompson Auto Boat Speed Show in 1963 and 1964.

What do you do when the styling and performance of America's Only True Sports Car aren't enough? You do what Bob Nordskog did: Have a new one customized into a dual-purpose show-and-race machine that's truly "out of this world."

2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - Earth Mover

2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - Earth Mover - Vette Magazine
Peter Nakhla's ZR1 is threatening planetary stability with 1,063 lb-ft of supercharged, nitrous-injected torque! Nakhla actually stepped up to the flagship Vette after heavily modifying a C6 Z06, the car that first hooked him on big Corvette power and on-track thrills.

For many Corvette enthusiasts, there's nothing quite like the thrill of pulling back the car cover, dropping the top, and taking a relaxed cruise in a treasured, factory-stock car. For others, it takes a medium-speed blast through a parking lot full of orange cones to get their blood pumping. And then, there are guys like Peter Nakhla, who are only happy when the rear quarters are covered in burnt rubber, the sticky race tires are halfway melted into the pavement, and the call to pit road is crackling over the PA. These guys push their cars to the very edge every time they get behind the wheel, and love them or hate them, they help define the outer limits of Corvette performance for the rest of us.

1969 Chevrolet Corvette "Rebel" L88 - Best Of The Best

1969 Chevrolet Corvette "Rebel" L88 - Vette Magazine
In the pantheon of exceptional Corvette race cars, the '69 "Rebel" L88 is in a class by itself!

Over the course of its brilliant racing career, the '69 L88 Corvette shown here amassed a win record previously thought impossible for a non-professional crew and driver team. The car was special-ordered by Orlando "Or" Costanzo, sales manager of Ferman Chevrolet in Tampa, Florida, and an enthusiast who raced Corvettes at high-profile races. Costanzo had been racing a '66 427 Vette for three years and felt it was time for an upgrade.

We take a Flashback to Steve Kelly's Hot Rod Road Test with the 1969 L-88 Chevy Corvette!

Chevrolet's success with building a real true-to-mankind sports car just might be attributed to their going about it in a serious way. No weird setups like doors disappearing into fenders, and no discomforts like side curtains and cutaway doors which Americans have outgrown.
